About the role

Contribute to Kitware’s mission by applying AI to environmental monitoring, national/global security, ethical AI, open science, scientific and medical computing
Develop robust solutions in Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, foundation models, ML, and AI
Develop and evaluate algorithms to understand textual and multimodal data and perform reasoning on extracted data
Work on projects leveraging LLMs for information extraction, decision-making, reasoning, scenario generation, and combating disinformation
Collaborate with government R&D agencies, commercial partners, and academic collaborators on research and development projects
Support publication of novel work and engage in collaborative research

Ph.D. students in Computer Science or related fields
Experience with natural language text generation, foundation models, large language models (LLMs), using GPT, Claude, BERT, or similar
Publication history in NLP (ACL, EMNLP, NAACL) or AI venues (AAAI, ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS)
Include a list of publications as part of resume/CV
US Citizenship required (due to contractual restrictions)
Preferred: experience with multiple large multimodal AI models (image, text, speech)
Preferred: past work adapting NLP and LLMs to domains including decision-making, reasoning, and inference
