About the role
- Lead and manage the design and implementation of controls solutions for automated material handling systems
- Produce PLC software and/or visualization systems (HMI/SCADA)
- Emulate the control system in a virtual environment and test PLC software
- Interpret electrical schematics and design input information
- Ensure systems designed and supplied are CE Compliant to the Machinery Directive
- Produce all associated documentation including design calculations, specifications, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, operation and maintenance manuals, and test specifications
- Commission controls systems on site and provide support to system commissioning activities and training for the end user
- Maintain good relationships with internal and external customers through high-quality service
- Promote continuous improvement and development of processes to improve project time, cost and quality
Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering is desirable however those with a HNC/HND in Electrical/Mechatronics/Controls Engineering will also be considered
- Ability to lead engineering activities autonomously on projects and provide support to other engineers in the team
- Experience in designing controls systems in Siemens S7 or TIA Portal
- Extensive proven hands-on experience working within an industrial automation environment
- Advanced understanding of PLC development tools
- Proficient with Industrial Networks such as Profinet, Profibus, ASi, EthernetIP or similar
- Experience working with E-plan is desirable not essential
- Good understanding of Electrical and Electronic technical manuals & drawings
- Understanding of design requirements such as Machine Directive and its standards
- Good understanding of distributed control systems
- Extensive understanding of software testing and emulation
- Full UK Driving Licence as the position will require travel up to 60% of the time to customer sites both in the UK and across EMEA
