About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operate PVD coating furnaces to coat carbide and Cermet inserts
- Load and unload fixtures with product into furnaces
- Ensure products are correctly set up and sufficiently clean
- Enter product weights, coating cycle information, and related data into a computer
- Start and monitor the coating process
- Clean fixtures and base plates between heats
- Ensure adequate gas supply and replace gas tanks as needed
- Ensure targets and melts are adequate for the loaded process
- Test standards to verify coating thickness and adhesion meet specifications
- Perform batch cleanings at proper intervals
- Operate other equipment, including parts blaster, as needed
- Set up and separate product
- Keep the work area and equipment clean
- Follow inspection control plans and ensure products are processed according to routings and specifications
- Work toward daily departmental production goals
- Communicate safety, quality, and product issues with supervisors, team members, and across shifts
- Take responsibility for furnace performance and solve furnace-related problems using learned knowledge, reasoning, and consultation with supervisors and co-workers
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED required
- 2-year technical degree preferred
- Commitment to working safely and understanding all safety procedures
- Must reliably follow operating procedures and work instructions
- Must follow inspection control plans and proper product routings and specifications
- Must be reliable and dependable
- Approximately eight hours of standing with two break opportunities per eight-hour work period
- Intermittent walking, reaching, sitting, and bending
- Ability to lift insert trays weighing up to 33 pounds
- Safety glasses with side shields required
- Safety shoes required
- Ability to solve furnace-related problems using learned knowledge and reasoning skills
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including the 6:40 PM–6:40 AM schedule
