Consultant, Regulatory Affairs
JSIConsultant, Regulatory Affairs managing a diverse portfolio of telecommunications client accounts and ensuring regulatory compliance. Provide strategic partnership and guidance while leading a hybrid work team.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the primary client representative and account manager for a large, diverse portfolio of accounts — including CLECs, MVNOs, nationwide telecom providers, and aggregators — ensuring exceptional service delivery and long-term client retention.
- Build and maintain deep, trusted client relationships that position our firm as an indispensable strategic partner, not just a vendor.
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of client projects from conception through completion — ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are consistently met.
- Provide subject matter expertise and coordinate the efforts of internal team members across all assigned accounts, serving as the connective tissue between clients and internal delivery teams.
- Proactively identify client needs and objectives, developing tailored strategies that achieve measurable outcomes and anticipate future regulatory challenges before they arise.
- Provide expert guidance and timely advice on state and federal compliance requirements across the full spectrum of telecommunications regulatory frameworks, including matters specific to CLECs, MVNOs, nationwide providers, and aggregators.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis to solve complex regulatory challenges, including navigating FCC rules, state Public Service Commission requirements, and evolving federal policy.
- Help clients mitigate risk, maintain compliance, and position themselves to innovate confidently within an ever-changing regulatory landscape.
- Partner closely with our sales team to identify and pursue opportunities to expand services across existing accounts — deepening relationships, increasing wallet share, and maximizing the long-term value of each client partnership.
- Play an active role in bringing new clients to the firm — leveraging your industry network, regulatory expertise, and client relationships to support new business development efforts.
- Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics to provide forward-thinking solutions and insights that differentiate our firm.
- Represent the firm at trade shows, workshops, webinars, and industry events to elevate our profile and expand our network of potential clients and partners.
- Provide direct supervision and day-to-day guidance to junior consultants and support staff assigned to your client accounts, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional growth.
- Mentor and develop team members, sharing subject matter expertise and helping build the firm's next generation of regulatory professionals.
- Navigate and foster positive working relationships across diverse teams and client cultures, modeling an inclusive and solutions-oriented leadership style.
Requirements
What you’ll need- A minimum of 7–12 years of industry experience managing regulatory and compliance requirements for competitive carriers and new market entrants, including CLECs, MVNOs, nationwide telecommunications providers, and aggregators.
- Deep expertise in FCC filings (Forms 477, 499, 481), USF contributions and audits, ETC designations and compliance, Section 214 authorizations, outage reporting, CPNI compliance, and all relevant state PUC filings — including registrations, tariff and pricing filings, annual reports, and compliance certifications.
- Demonstrated prior experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity is strongly preferred — including managing the work of junior staff, providing performance feedback, and overseeing the quality of team deliverables.
- A track record of mentoring colleagues and contributing to a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture.
- Proven ability to serve as a trusted client representative across a broad portfolio of accounts — managing relationships, setting expectations, and consistently delivering results.
- Outstanding client service skills and the ability to communicate complex regulatory matters clearly and confidently — both verbally and in writing — to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple high-stakes client matters simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong project management skills — ability to deliver on time and on budget, independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SmartSheets, and Adobe Acrobat.
