About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Process and analyze LiDAR point cloud data for accuracy and consistency, utilizing advanced software tools to generate high-quality maps and models to support broadband network design in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
  • Develop terrain and surface models (DTM/DSM) and perform line-of-sight and obstruction analysis to inform fiber routing, infrastructure placement, and fixed wireless deployments.
  • Address and resolve technical issues related to LiDAR hardware and software to ensure smooth operation during data collection and processing.
  • Support make-ready engineering by identifying vegetation, pole conditions, and potential conflicts, generating detailed reports and visualizations from LiDAR data for presentation to project teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering, GIS, and regulatory teams to meet BEAD program requirements and timelines, producing geospatial mapping and documentation to support funding applications, compliance reporting, and audits.
  • Conduct occasional field surveys to collect supplementary geospatial data.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Science, GIS, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–6 years of experience in LiDAR technology, data processing, and geospatial analysis with practical applications in urban planning, environmental monitoring, and surveying.
  • Experience supporting broadband telecommunications projects (fiber and/or wireless).
  • Proficiency with LiDAR tools (LAStools, TerraScan, Global Mapper) and GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Strong understanding of geospatial data standards, coordinate systems, and large dataset management.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy in data processing.
  • Experience with federally funded broadband programs such as BEAD, RDOF, or NTIA grants (preferred).
  • Familiarity with rural broadband deployment challenges and permitting considerations (preferred).
  • Experience with fiber design tools (e.g., VETRO, OSPInsight) or basic scripting (Python, SQL) (preferred).
