About the role
- Serve as subject matter expert for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and building automation systems
- Provide advanced technical troubleshooting and problem-solving support to field teams as technical escalation point
- Lead regular technical meetings and engage with Regional Operations Managers, Operations Managers, and Technicians to provide guidance, share best practices, and address operational challenges
- Develop and maintain technical standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), preventive maintenance task libraries, equipment specifications, best practices documentation, and technical reference guides; establish quality review processes to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and regulatory compliance
- Design and deliver comprehensive technical training programs and career development pathways for engineering staff
- Conduct compliance assessments and interface with regulatory authorities and municipal officials
- Oversee fleet vehicle inventory, compliance tracking, and specialized equipment procurement
- Provide direct supervision and performance management for Field Support Specialist positions
- Provide technical oversight and strategic direction for HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) and Sustainability workstreams
- Participate in talent management activities including candidate interviewing, and selection processes for technicians and engineering staff across the portfolio
- Coordinate emergency technical support for building system failures and critical incidents
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum 10+ years of hands-on experience in commercial building engineering
- Extensive experience with HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, air handlers, controls)
- Advanced knowledge of electrical systems (power distribution, lighting, emergency systems)
- Experience with building automation systems and energy management
- Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Engineering degree preferred
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
- Relevant industry certifications (HVAC Excellence, NECA, Building Performance Institute) preferred
- Current knowledge of applicable codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, IBC, IMC, IPC)
- Previous training or teaching experience preferred
- Background in preventive maintenance program development and implementation preferred
