About the role

  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of the QA Technicians assigned to the shift
  • Monitors product quality attributes; applies and maintains quality specifications; conducts statistical analyses of quality and process data
  • Evaluates trends; documents performance measures; and recommends process changes
  • Oversees pre-operational and operational inspections and performs activities required to maintain and document regulatory compliance
  • Ensures compliance with USDA regulations, company programs and policies, and SQF requirements
  • Acts as Food Safety Representative
  • Manages daily activities of QA Technicians on the shift; prepares work schedules, assigns work and oversees QA work projects
  • Monitors QA Technician work schedules and attendance; schedules backups, approves time-off requests and reports absences in a timely manner to HR
  • Works collaboratively with Operations and Maintenance personnel to ensure food safety and quality requirements are met and resolves issues in a timely manner
  • Interprets and communicates customer requirements to production and supporting teams
  • Establishes and audits processes to ensure that customer requirements and product specifications are met; reviews nonconformance issues, conducts root-cause analysis, determines appropriate corrective actions and preventive measures, and assesses effectiveness over time
  • Designs and implements methods for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection in conjunction with Operations personnel
  • Conducts statistical analysis of quality attributes and process measurements; develops data and trend analyses; evaluates trends and communicates findings to management
  • Coordinates and participates in internal quality audits
  • Assists with performing food safety & quality audits on suppliers/vendors as requested

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Quality, Food Science or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years previous Quality Assurance experience in USDA-FSIS-regulated food manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems, including Global Food Safety Initiative standards (e.g. SQF)
  • Experience applying root-cause problem solving and other quality methodologies
  • Previous experience with the USDA-FSIS label approval process desirable
  • Basic understanding of meat processing and basic knowledge of USDA-FSIS regulations related to fully cooked meat & poultry sausage products
  • Previous experience with process improvement activities and documentation required
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong computer proficiencies with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong math skills, with ability to calculate formulas and percentages, perform metric conversions and common statistical analyses, and interpret data
