About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide regulatory legal support and strategic legal guidance to the Innovative Medicine business in China
Advise on complex legal and regulatory requirements affecting innovative medicines across the full product lifecycle
Serve as the key legal contact and strategic advisor for Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Medical Affairs, Good Clinical Practice Compliance, Medical Safety, and Government Affairs & Policy
Serve on local legal entities’ Marketing Authorisation Holder Board and Domestic Responsible Entity Board
Support overseas marketing authorisation holder legal and regulatory requirements
Monitor Chinese pharmaceutical legislation and advise R&D and business colleagues on legislative developments, innovative regulatory pathways, advanced therapies, and digital and AI-related regulation
Engage in external regulatory and policy initiatives with industry associations and J&J policy teams
Provide training and guidance on regulatory legal updates
Undertake other regulatory legal work aligned with company priorities
Report to the Legal Director - Regulatory Law APAC within the Regulatory Law group for Innovative Medicine

Requirements

What you’ll need

LL.B. or J.D. obtained with excellent results
China National Bar certificate
Supplementary degree or LL.M. considered an asset
Fluency in Mandarin and English, written and spoken
At least 7 years’ post-qualification legal experience, ideally in regulatory law
Experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences, or healthcare industries
Experience acquired in a reputable local or international law firm and/or multinational healthcare corporation legal department
US or European regulatory environment experience is an asset
Excellent strategic and analytical skills
Ability to develop creative and compliant solutions to novel issues
Ability to assess risk and handle challenging situations or high ambiguity
Effective communication and consultative interaction with senior business leaders and cross-functional teams
Ability to work collaboratively with legal colleagues and business partners
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with global teams across multiple time zones
