Senior Manager, Trade Operations – EMEA
Johnson & JohnsonSenior Manager overseeing trade compliance operations in the medical device and pharmaceuticals sector. Leading trade-related activities to ensure compliance and operational excellence in Belgium.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead Trade Compliance Projects / Programs: Design, implement, and oversee trade compliance programs that align with current industry regulations and internal policies.
- Monitor regulatory changes and industry standards, assessing their impact and updating compliance protocols accordingly.
- Ensure all trade activities adhere to legal, customs, and trade standards, minimizing risk and avoiding penalties.
- Lead the Trade Compliance Processes for Import and Export transactions: Manage end-to-end import and export transactions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance, involving Johnson & Johnson Importers and Exporters, including R&D processes.
- Oversee documentation, customs clearance, product classification and settlement processes across multiple businesses, including classification, and proper payment of import duties.
- Optimize transaction workflows to improve efficiency, best practices in record keeping and develop strategies to reduce risk of supply chain delays.
- People Development and Succession Planning: Lead, mentor, and develop the trade operations team to ensure high performance, professional growth, and adherence to best practices. Create development plans to enhance team capabilities and knowledge of trade processes and regulations.
- Engage with regional and global Trade Compliance Leads to develop a community of practice, establish priorities, and assist with resource planning/allocation.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, compliance, and proactive problem-solving.
- Trade Compliance Service Provider Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with external trade service providers such as customs brokers, freight forwarders, and logistics partners.
- Negotiate service levels, monitor performance, and ensure service providers meet contractual and compliance standards. Collaborate with providers to resolve issues quickly and implement process improvements.
- Risk Mitigation / Technology: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to trade operations, including regulatory, financial, and operational risks. Stay current with evolving industry regulations and adapt internal processes to maintain compliance and operational agility.
- Oversee the deployment and management of trade management systems and technological tools to support automation, data accuracy, and reporting. Lead initiatives to leverage technology for process improvements, duty optimization, and cost savings.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, International Trade, Business, Law, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Fluent English and Dutch or French.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in International Supply Chain, Transportation, Trade Compliance and experience in Medical Device/Technology or Pharmaceuticals industry.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong collaboration and influencing skills to inspire trust and effectively build relationships.
- Proven experience in driving decisions and results in a highly complex and rapidly changing environment.
- Project management skills.
- Business, technical, and leadership acumen.
- Demonstrates an understanding of AI concepts and frameworks, including awareness of responsible and ethical AI practices, and has experience generating effective prompts to boost efficiency and productivity
