About the role

  • The training program for Operating Room Assistant (OTA) provides students with professional, personnel, social and methodological competencies to participate responsibly in surgical and anaesthesiology departments, as well as in the emergency department, endoscopy and the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) of a hospital.
  • Assisting in the preparation, execution and follow-up of medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Comprehensive patient care in these work areas.
  • Training qualification to perform certain tasks independently or as part of collaborative duties.
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation with other professional groups.
  • Practical placements in all surgical specialties at Johanniter Hospital Stendal, in accordance with the recommendations of the German Hospital Federation (DKG).
  • Theoretical instruction takes place at the Training Center for Health Professions of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
  • Qualified practical instructors who will guide and support you.
  • Modern teaching methods with practice-oriented training concepts.

Requirements

  • Upper secondary school leaving certificate (Abitur), secondary school diploma (Realschulabschluss) or an equivalent qualification; or a lower secondary school certificate (Hauptschulabschluss) or equivalent school-leaving qualification combined with a successfully completed vocational training.
  • A lower secondary school certificate (Hauptschulabschluss) combined with professional authorization as a nursing assistant (Gesundheits- und Krankenpflegehelfer/in) (m/f/d), or a successfully completed state-regulated training of at least one year in nursing or elderly care, or another equivalent qualification.
  • Willingness to work in a team and value collegial cooperation.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to new situations.
  • Physically resilient and able to cope with stressful situations.
  • Completion of a two-week placement in a surgical/operating area.
  • German language proficiency of at least level B2 (CEFR).
