About the role

  • Manages and directs all library services for the department, including reference, collection development, acquisitions, and digitization of archival documents
  • Ensures departmental compliance with the State Library Act for document deposit
  • Provides a full range of library services including maintaining technical reference works, textbooks, and other various publications for use by departmental personnel necessary to accomplish objectives
  • Participates in national efforts and maintains active contact with national groups to ensure knowledge of subject matter experts and national practices and technologies are incorporated into state practice
  • Explains library resources to departmental personnel and locates material pertaining to specialized topics of research subjects
  • Collaborates with the Information Access Manager to ensure electronic resources are accessible
  • Trains and evaluates subordinates to ensure a well-developed and competent staff maintaining certification for compliance with state and regional library system policies
  • Plans, directs, and implements special projects involving the Information Resources Center promotion and outreach activities
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in library science, information science, English, or history PLUS three years of experience working in a library, information management, research, managing documents, subscriptions in digital and physical collections or a combination thereof
  • Eleven years of experience working in a library, information management, research, managing documents, subscriptions in digital and physical collections or a combination thereof
  • Supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of modern organizational concepts and general information technology skills
  • Ability to maintain harmonious professional relationships with fellow employees, other agency officials and the general public
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
