About the role
- Manages and directs all library services for the department, including reference, collection development, acquisitions, and digitization of archival documents
- Ensures departmental compliance with the State Library Act for document deposit
- Provides a full range of library services including maintaining technical reference works, textbooks, and other various publications for use by departmental personnel necessary to accomplish objectives
- Participates in national efforts and maintains active contact with national groups to ensure knowledge of subject matter experts and national practices and technologies are incorporated into state practice
- Explains library resources to departmental personnel and locates material pertaining to specialized topics of research subjects
- Collaborates with the Information Access Manager to ensure electronic resources are accessible
- Trains and evaluates subordinates to ensure a well-developed and competent staff maintaining certification for compliance with state and regional library system policies
- Plans, directs, and implements special projects involving the Information Resources Center promotion and outreach activities
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in library science, information science, English, or history PLUS three years of experience working in a library, information management, research, managing documents, subscriptions in digital and physical collections or a combination thereof
- Eleven years of experience working in a library, information management, research, managing documents, subscriptions in digital and physical collections or a combination thereof
- Supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of modern organizational concepts and general information technology skills
- Ability to maintain harmonious professional relationships with fellow employees, other agency officials and the general public
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
