About the role
- Directs and administers the activities of the Knowledge Management Unit
- Creates, manages, and implements a taxonomy for transportation terms used within the department
- Ensures that critical knowledge, information, and controlled departmental documents are widely accessible and usable via the Information Resource Center
- Develops a coordinated policy to capture knowledge and employ knowledge management strategies within the Department in order to promote performance, innovation, the sharing of lessons learned, and continuous organizational improvement
- Utilizes knowledge capture to assist bureaus, Offices, and Divisions with developing succession management and staff transition strategies that prevent a loss of institutional knowledge and/or functional efficiencies
- Recommends resource allocation and provides input on legislative changes to information management practices
- Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel to ensure their effectiveness
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
Requirements
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in library science, information management, public administration, project management or a combination thereof
- Four years of experience managing complex projects, managing and implementing policies procurements or a combination thereof
- Twelve years of experience in public transportation, public administration, managing complex projects, managing and implementing policies, procedures, or a combination thereof
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Proven ability to lead, direct, and manage staff
- Expertise in developing and administering knowledge management activities
- Working knowledge of agency programs and service objectives, activities, and operational systems
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of BidBuy or other procurement systems
- Ability to communicate effectively at various professional levels in both oral and written formats
- Good organizational, leadership, and self-motivational skills
- Ability to maintain cooperative relationships
