About the role

  • This position is responsible for coordinating strategic emergency planning and response for the Office of Highways Project Implementation (OHPI).
  • Maintaining and revising the responsibilities of the department in planning guidance documents.
  • Administering the research and statistical methods and techniques of planning.
  • Serving as the inter-agency liaison with other state agencies for emergency preparedness.
  • Initiates, develops and coordinates the emergency planning and response process for the central Bureau of Operations.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and instruction of various technical emergency planning programs with other state agencies.

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree majoring in emergency management, homeland security, public administration, business administration, risk management, crisis management, disaster management, or communications PLUS two years of experience in emergency or disaster management planning, policies, procedures, and developing exercises or a combination thereof;
  • Eight years of experience in emergency or disaster management planning, policies, procedures, and developing exercises or combination thereof.
  • Working knowledge of emergency management, preparedness and disaster planning concepts.
  • Ability to adapt, plan, organize, and execute tasks with proficiency and professionalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Completion of the Illinois Professional Emergency Manager Accreditation Program within two years of hire date.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Requires occasional statewide travel which may include overnight stays.
  • Requires 24-hour on call availability.
  • Possess or successfully obtain certifications in Department of Homeland Security Incident Management Courses that include: NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 within six months of hire date.
