About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform mammography exams, screenings, and diagnostic studies
  • Assist during invasive procedures
  • Detect breast tissue abnormalities under physician direction and present findings for diagnosis
  • Deliver patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures
  • Operate mammography equipment and perform examinations for clinical screening and diagnostic purposes
  • Position patients and breasts appropriately, instruct patients, adjust compression mechanisms, and set exposure factors
  • Follow prescribed radiation safety standards to protect staff and patients
  • Complete patient record charting for mammography services
  • Obtain patient history and provide care and support before, during, and after procedures
  • Explain procedures and answer patient inquiries
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, call for repairs, and maintain equipment inventories
  • Perform related technologist duties, including quality assurance and control, as directed by lead technologist, supervisor, or manager
  • Maintain continuing education required for licenses and the position
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's values

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Specialized Diploma from a recognized School of Radiology Sciences, or current validated ARRT Registry in Radiologic Technology (R)
  • Knowledge of techniques and procedures used in mammographic imaging
  • Ability to produce images of internal body structures for diagnosis and early detection of breast diseases
  • Knowledge of and ability to prepare patients for diagnostic/radiological imaging
  • Ability to monitor patients' reactions during and after procedures
  • Ability to respond to emergent situations using appropriate measures
  • At least 40 hours of documented mammography training for technologists initially qualifying on or after April 28, 1999
  • Documented training in Digital Mammography
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association
  • RT (Registered Technologist) Radiology credential from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • Ability to lift and carry 40–50 lbs.
  • Frequent to continuous standing and walking
  • May be required to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR
  • May require travel between Jefferson sites
