About the role
- Serve as the lead physician champion for Epic system optimization within Emergency Medicine.
- Collaborate with Jefferson’s CMIO, IT, and HIM teams to design, refine, and implement clinical documentation tools, Epic dashboards, SmartPhrases, and workflows tailored to emergency care.
- Guide adoption of Epic tools such as SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench, and Radar Dashboards to support faculty, residents, and operational leaders.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and platforms that enterprise software vendors adopt, and lead education to ED providers on these changes.
- Serve as the informatics representative for TJU on an Enterprise level and collaborate with other informatics leads within the Jefferson system to leverage best practices throughout the the enterprise emergency departments.
- Develop and lead the department’s strategy for clinical and operational data use across TJUH/JMH/JHN.
- Analyze and report on key ED metrics (e.g., throughput, acuity, LWBS, boarding times, return visits).
- Ensure data integrity and drive evidence-based improvements in quality, safety, efficiency, and patient experience.
- Collaborate with the department’s clinical operation and quality improvement leaders to identify issues and develop appropriate and actionable plans, including timelines and milestones.
- Support faculty and resident research by facilitating data access and advising on methodology.
- Produce academic output in the areas of clinical informatics, emergency medicine operations, health IT, or health services research.
- Contribute to education by mentoring residents and students on informatics, clinical documentation, and data science principles.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, and Joint Commission standards for documentation and coding.
- Follow developments in professional standards and regulatory guidelines and advise/inform same to EM providers, facilitating adherence as it relates to departmental electronic systems.
- Liaise with Jefferson HIM, compliance, and revenue cycle teams to support accurate, efficient and optimized clinical documentation practices.
- Maintain an active clinical role in the Emergency Department.
- Serve as a role model in integrating technology and evidence-based care into clinical practice.
Requirements
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Emergency Medicine.
- Eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania.
- Minimum 3 years of post-residency clinical practice in Emergency Medicine, preferably within an academic health system.
- Demonstrated experience with clinical data analytics and Epic EHR.
- Attentive to administrative responsibilities.
- Passion for academic medicine, teaching, and quality improvement.
- Fellowship training or board certification in Clinical Informatics (ABPM) (preferred).
- Experience with Epic analytics tools (SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench, Clarity/Caboodle) (preferred).
- Proven leadership in clinical quality improvement, documentation optimization, or HIM governance (preferred).
- Scholarly productivity in emergency medicine informatics or health services research (preferred).
