About the role
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the development of automated assembly and test systems.
- Act as a virtual and onsite liaison for automation development best practices with customers and facilities.
- Interact directly with assembly and automation equipment suppliers.
- Specify and/or purchase equipment, assembly tooling, and fixtures for new and existing processes.
- Lead the development of URS and equipment specifications, including qualification of custom/vendor equipment for production use.
- Guide and lead quoting of automation equipment.
- Create and coordinate project teams to achieve agreed project outcomes.
- Ensure seamless handover of automation projects to receiving site teams.
- Support sites with engineering hiring and technical troubleshooting.
- Identify and coordinate automation training opportunities for yourself and colleagues.
- Actively research new technologies, automation developments, and external suppliers.
- Support sites on automation escalations and improvement projects (Downtime, Scrap, OEE) during engineering transfer and ramp-up.
- Collaborate on RFQs, DFMs, design reviews, product design, and automation equipment design as part of holistic solutions.
- Drive company values and promote continuous improvement.
- Provide support to other sites through a global Q&A process platform.
- Direct manufacturing in troubleshooting, upgrades, retrofits, set-ups, and methods development.
- Support product development meetings and recommend product design changes to enhance manufacturing and assembly.
- Apply Lean Six Sigma tools, projects, and processes to assigned engineering projects.
- Lead large, complex projects with broad organizational impact.
- Ensure compliance with all local, regional, and national regulatory requirements, codes, and controls.
- Support all company safety and quality program initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electronics/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent military or technical training and experience.
- At least 12 years of experience in automation equipment development and installation OR an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
- Knowledge and experience of ISO 13485 required.
- Healthcare experience with the assembly of medical devices is required.
- Complex understanding of processes and manufacturing techniques.
- Experience in engineering within a manufacturing environment, especially Healthcare and Medical Device.
- Subject Matter Expert in applicable engineering theories, design principles, practices, and design evaluation techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and email.
