About the role
- Lead the design and execution of comprehensive test strategies across workstreams and platforms
- Author and own detailed test plans, test cases, and test data strategies aligned to complex user workflows and system architecture
- Drive defect identification, documentation, root cause analysis, and resolution tracking through to closure
- Serve as a QA thought leader in Agile ceremonies—sprint planning, design reviews, and code reviews
- Mentor and guide other QA engineers, fostering a culture of quality across the team
- Evaluate and expand test automation frameworks and CI/CD-integrated testing pipelines (automation experience a plus)
- Analyze user needs and target environments to ensure solutions align with current architecture and accessibility standards
- Champion quality process improvements and introduce modern testing methodologies to drive efficiency and coverage
- Engage with stakeholders to communicate quality status, risks, and recommendations clearly
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software quality assurance experience, including complex enterprise or government systems
- Deep expertise in test planning, test case design, defect lifecycle management, and release readiness
- Strong command of Agile/Scrum practices and cross-functional collaboration
- Hands-on or working knowledge of Appian is a huge plus.
- Experience mentoring QA team members and contributing to process standardization
- Familiarity with cloud-based environments and modern web application architecture
- Proficiency with tools such as Jira, TestRail, or equivalent QA management platforms
- Hands-on or working knowledge of test automation (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or similar) is a strong plus—not required
- Hands-on or working knowledge of Process Playbook desired but not required.
- Section 508 / accessibility testing experience is highly desirable.
- Prior experience with federal or VA.gov digital services is highly desirable.
- **Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or other engineering/technical discipline. Alternatively, 8 additional years of experience may be substituted for education.**
- **Ability to obtain Background Investigation Clearance.**
