About the role
- Lead advocacy efforts for Issue One's We the People Playbook, developing Hill strategy and stewarding relationships with Senate and House staff to advance legislation protecting the rule of law and restoring Congress's Article I powers.
- Support Issue One’s tech reform portfolio, which aims to create a democracy-enhancing information ecosystem, by helping shape legislative strategy and engaging in advocacy on Capitol Hill.
- Build and maintain partnerships with coalition partners and like-minded organizations to advance Issue One's legislative priorities.
- Provide policy and political analysis to support Issue One's National Campaigns team in grassroots and grasstops efforts.
- Conduct policy research and analysis, articulating Issue One's legislative priorities and strategy across the organization.
- Track lobbying activity for compliance and complete quarterly LDA reports in coordination with the Legislative Director.
- Manage legislative team operations, including hiring and supervising interns, running coordination meetings, shaping workstreams, and providing guidance on team projects.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience in legal, legislative, or public affairs settings.
- Experience in analyzing, communicating, and advancing policy issues.
- A baseline understanding of U.S. rule-of-law issues and the federal legislative process is vital; Hill experience is a plus.
- Experience in lobbying, legislative, or government affairs is required.
- Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills to effectively approach decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Superb communication skills, including writing for diverse audiences and being an expert listener.
- Superb project management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure, under multiple deadlines, and think quickly on your feet.
