About the role
- You design a sustainable data architecture and implement a high-performance, stable data infrastructure on the Google Cloud Platform to scale our data operations.
- You migrate the current on-premises PostgreSQL-based solution to a cloud-based solution using BigQuery.
- You design, implement, and optimize data pipelines to handle a variety of structured and unstructured data sources.
- You ensure data availability and quality by applying best practices in data modeling and data management.
- You develop automated DataOps solutions to ensure data integrity and transparency, including monitoring and troubleshooting.
- You configure, implement, and manage Airflow for workflow orchestration and DataKitchen for implementing tests and alerts.
- You use your expertise in Spatial SQL to process and analyze geospatial, thematic, and market data.
- You work closely with cross-functional teams to develop data products tailored to business requirements.
Requirements
- You have at least 5 years of professional experience in data engineering or a similar role.
- You have deep knowledge of databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, OGC SQL/PostGIS, BigQuery) and experience scaling data platforms.
- You have experience working with ETL/ELT processes and data integration tools.
- You bring extensive Python development experience and are proficient with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, PySpark, Pandera, and pytest.
- You have hands-on experience with cloud platform services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for deploying and managing data solutions — ideally on the Google Cloud Platform.
- You have practical experience with automation and workflow orchestration tools like Airflow and dbt, as well as data quality testing and data observability tools such as DataKitchen.
- You have practical experience with VCS and CI/CD, e.g., Git, GitLab, or GitHub.
- You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- You enjoy working in a team, proactively shape initiatives, and don't wait for tasks to be assigned.
- You possess excellent problem-solving skills and can work in a collaborative, agile environment.
- Ideally, you have project experience with geospatial data and geographic information systems (GIS).
- You are fluent in German (C1) and English.
