About the role
- Oversee payroll, taxes, compensation, and benefits administration for employees in the U.S. and Canada
- Deliver a consistent, competitive, and employee-first experience across the full lifecycle from onboarding through offboarding
- Partner with leadership to ensure compensation, equity, and benefits programs support talent attraction and retention
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and operational workflows
- Own HRIS systems supporting onboarding, offboarding, performance management, and employee records
- Manage PEOs, payroll providers, benefits vendors, and immigration partners to ensure high-quality service delivery
- Ensure compliance with applicable labor laws across states and provinces where employees are based
- Maintain accurate, secure employee records and oversee data privacy practices
- Support immigration processes and ensure documentation and timelines are managed effectively
- Own workforce data quality, reporting, and dashboards that inform leadership decisions
- Track key HR metrics, manage operational budgets, and report on HR effectiveness
- Translate HR data into clear business insights that demonstrate how people operations drive company goals
- Resolve employee relations issues with fairness, consistency, and care
- Provide managers with practical HR guidance, tools, and policies
- Act as a trusted operational partner across the organization
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience leading HR operations in a startup or scaling organization
- Hands-on expertise setting up, managing, and reporting on HRIS and payroll systems in an individual contributor capacity
- Experience designing and administering compensation, equity, and benefits programs
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. and Canadian labor laws and compliance requirements
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple vendors, PEOs, and complex projects simultaneously
- Advanced spreadsheet and reporting skills that will help you succeed in managing workforce data and metrics
- A data-driven mindset with the ability to translate HR metrics into actionable business insights
- A detail-oriented, execution-focused work style paired with strong judgment and adaptability
- Thoughtful communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills that build trust across the business
