About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Participate in the development and implementation of business plans and manage operations to achieve key business objectives.
  • Develop, recommend and implement management and/or organizational initiatives to support company strategies, including changes to organizational structure and improvements to processes and technology.
  • Establish and maintain productive business relationships with underwriting, risk control and other operational units.
  • Provide effective leadership by motivating staff, supporting engagement, and being responsible for hiring and performance feedback.
  • Promote continuous learning and technical development within the team through training, mentoring and structured development plans.
  • Conduct monthly audits of claims files and provide coaching on your team’s technical and professional skills; facilitate continuous learning by developing robust development plans for your employees.
  • Communicate effectively with various departments to support your team’s workflows and improvements.
  • Provide technical support on claims files regarding policy interpretation, settlement negotiations and liability determination.
  • Maintain respectful and productive business relationships with vendors, brokers, service providers, law firms and internal client groups.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Management experience is an asset
  • At least 7 years’ experience in the insurance industry
  • At least 5 years’ experience in claims handling, preferably in specialty insurance
  • Strong knowledge of auto, home and litigation insurance
  • Technical knowledge of transportation, cargo, marine, contamination, bodily injury and liability is an asset
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and coach employees to achieve results
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Project management and change management skills
  • Holding or working toward a recognized professional insurance designation (e.g., Chartered Insurance Professional - CIP) is an asset
  • Possession of a 5A Claims Expert certificate
  • Bilingualism required. Regular interaction with French- and English-speaking clients and colleagues across the country is necessary.
