About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage components of subrogation handling for multiple specialty lines of business
  • Develop plans, analyze results, and oversee the work of subrogation staff
  • Review and provide direction or settlement-authority recommendations for complex and/or high-exposure subrogation claims
  • Support the Subro Director through claim communications, trend identification, form-development input, and marketing support
  • Monitor claim quality, customer feedback, and staff claim reports for regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and corporate objectives
  • Operate independently within company guidelines and high authority levels when settling subrogation claims
  • Ensure proper handling strategies, including coverage, liability, and claim-resolution determinations
  • Recommend, draft, and implement procedural and workflow changes
  • Ensure Staff Counsel manages assigned portfolios within mandated guidelines
  • Make decisions or recommendations on subrogation disposition, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement for claims exceeding staff counsel and staff autonomy levels
  • Manage allocation of incoming settlements and collection proceeds to support accurate KPI production
  • Review and analyze subrogation reports against KPI expectations
  • Identify trends and implement strategies to correct adverse trends
  • Maintain professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments related to subrogation
  • Manage assigned staff, including development, goal setting, skill assessment, selection, role alignment, and performance appraisals
  • Communicate and measure goals frequently
  • Oversee training and personal development programs
  • Anticipate and meet internal and external customer needs
  • Liaise, train, and collaborate across the Claims Department and lines of business to promote recognition of subrogation opportunities
  • Manage a team of 7 people, with potential future growth
  • Develop and oversee new hires

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of specialty claim experience
  • 3–5 years of subrogation experience
  • 3–5 years of supervisory/management experience
  • Background in auto, small property, workers compensation, and occupational accident preferred but not absolute
  • Strong professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments related to subrogation
  • Ability to manage, develop, assess, select, and evaluate staff
  • Ability to oversee training and personal development programs
  • Ability to evaluate, negotiate, and settle subrogation claims
  • Ability to work within stated company guidelines and high settlement-authority levels
