About the role
- Design and build knowledge tracing and longitudinal learner models that support mastery and progression features surfaced to customers
- Define mastery and progression signals, model targets, and evaluation criteria aligned to learning outcomes and product requirements
- Build robust training and scoring approaches for noisy, incomplete, and evolving learner interaction data
- Lead evaluation for validity, calibration, stability over time, interpretability, and failure modes, not just predictive accuracy
- Partner with engineering to productionize learner models into reliable services, including deployment, monitoring, and iteration loops
- Collaborate with product and learning partners to translate learning theory into scalable product systems and to communicate model behavior and limitations clearly
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in applied machine learning, data science, or applied research, with ownership of models shipped into real products
- Strong depth in at least one of: knowledge tracing, sequence modeling, probabilistic modeling, temporal modeling, or Bayesian approaches
- Experience working with longitudinal data and designing models that remain stable, meaningful, and interpretable over time
- Strong Python and ML stack skills, with ability to implement and iterate on modeling pipelines
- Strong evaluation instincts: calibration, uncertainty, robustness, interpretability, and validation strategy
- Ability to communicate modeling choices, limitations, and uncertainty clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation, plus all full-time employees participate in our ownership program - because everyone should have a stake in our success.
- Flexible work culture. Our remote, hybrid and in-office collaboration spaces vary by role, team and location.
- Generous time off, including local holidays and our annual “Dim the Lights” period in late December, when teams are encouraged to step back and recharge based on departmental needs.
- Comprehensive wellness programs and mental health support
- Annual learning and development stipends to support your growth
- The technology and tools you need to do your best work — typically a Mac, with PC options available in some locations
- Motivosity employee recognition program
- A culture rooted in inclusivity, support, and meaningful connection
