About the role
- Advise on global privacy regulatory and industry developments and assess impact on Instacart’s global objectives
- Drive privacy compliance and awareness across product, engineering, advertising, marketing, data science, HR, business development & sales, security and global policy teams
- Lead privacy and data security event response teams (incident management)
- Serve as privacy subject matter expert for initiatives including artificial intelligence, personalization, advertising, Instacart Health and smart carts
- Drive privacy initiatives and governance programs, partnering with privacy engineering and risks teams to operationalize privacy program operations
- Partner with legal colleagues on commercial transactions and M&A activity
- Think ahead and prepare for future legal issues; report to the Associate General Counsel for Privacy
Requirements
- A J.D. from a top-tier law school and membership with at least one state bar
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience working at a leading law firm or in-house legal department
- Minimum of 4 years of hands on privacy experience
- Expertise in global privacy frameworks, including GDPR and HIPAA
- Experience with cybersecurity programs
- Experience in AdTech
- Ability to provide clear, concise legal advice and work effectively cross-functionally, particularly with engineering, product and marketing teams
- Strong program management skills and experience building scalable processes
- Strong communication skills with ability to translate legal concepts into practical guidance
- Team player
- Preferred: California state bar
