About the role
- Partner with the CTO to own technical health and operational excellence of the software engineering organization
- Scale the software team from 14 to ~23 engineers in the first year; hire, onboard, and develop engineering managers
- Lead implementation of a new microservices architecture, consistent APIs, and robust testing strategy
- Build and improve modern CI/CD pipelines and developer experience enabling fast, reliable shipping
- Lead teams responsible for applications, integrations, infrastructure, and quality assurance
- Drive operational excellence: improve developer velocity, system uptime, and mean time to resolution (MTTR)
- Mature SDLC: introduce project visibility, documentation, cross-functional communication, and deliberate planning (Agile, Kanban, ScaleUp)
- Serve as a key partner to Head of Product and hardware engineering leaders to solve hardware/software integration challenges
- Establish engineering culture emphasizing psychological safety, high performance, testing, documentation, and security
Requirements
- Proven experience in a high-growth environment (early-stage and scale-up)
- Strategic vision with hands-on, tactical problem-solving
- Prior experience leading software teams and scaling infrastructure
- Expertise in backend platforms and event-driven architecture
- Experience with microservices architecture
- Passion for improving developer experience (DevEx)
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, rapid deploys, rollbacks, and test automation at scale
- Demonstrated experience ensuring security and compliance in regulated environments (SOC2, HIPAA)
- Experience driving secure coding practices, threat modeling, and managing cloud security audits
- Bonus: experience with hardware/software integration, embedded systems or IoT
