About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Write, own, and ship production backend services and control frameworks operating and calibrating neutral atom quantum computers
  • Debug and support every layer of the control stack, from real-time embedded kernels to distributed services
  • Build tooling enabling physicists and hardware engineers to run experiments independently
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Maintain containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Develop and maintain Python packages with C++ or Rust extensions in a Linux-native environment
  • Work with experimental data, including time-series data, SQL and non-relational databases, realtime image analysis, and object detection from live quantum systems
  • Work directly with physicists and hardware engineers to translate scientific requirements into software controlling real quantum machines
  • Spend approximately 90% of the role writing and owning code

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 6+ years of backend software engineering experience
  • Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a field where writing code to solve hard quantitative problems was the norm
  • Production-tested Python experience
  • Hands-on C++ or Rust experience; experience with both is a strong advantage
  • Comprehensive testing, clean revision control, operational reliability, maintainable systems, thorough documentation, and code-health practices
  • Experience with scientific or experimental data pipelines
  • Experience with NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch, time-series storage, and ETL
  • Science or mathematics background, or verifiable experience embedded with scientists translating research requirements into production software
  • Ability to discuss physics knowledgeably
  • Familiarity with statistics, machine learning, or AMO physics is a differentiator
  • Experience with realtime image analysis and object detection is advantageous
  • Authorization to receive software or technology controlled under U.S. export control laws and regulations without sponsorship for an export license may be required
