About the role

  • Responsibility for planning, operating and further developing our database landscape with a focus on PostgreSQL and Oracle.
  • Ensuring high performance, availability and security as well as extensive automation.
  • Administration, configuration and upgrades of PostgreSQL and Oracle databases, including backup & recovery.
  • Performance analysis and optimization (e.g., execution plans, indexing, bloat & lock management, wait events).
  • Design and operation of high-availability and replication solutions (PostgreSQL: Streaming Replication/Patroni; Oracle: Data Guard/HAS).
  • Patching, security measures (e.g., TDE, hardening, auditing) and conducting recovery tests.
  • Monitoring, capacity and storage management, as well as SLA and health reporting.
  • Automation using Shell/Python/Ansible and creation of reliable documentation (runbooks, playbooks, post-mortems).

Requirements

  • Several years of experience (5+ years) as a database administrator in enterprise environments, with deep expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle.
  • Solid experience in administration, upgrades, patching, backup/recovery and performance analysis (e.g., EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, AWR/ASH).
  • Experience with HA and replication solutions such as Data Guard, HAS, Streaming Replication or Patroni.
  • Familiarity with monitoring (CheckMK), storage/tablespace management, capacity planning and structured incident handling.
  • Skills in automation (Shell, Python, ideally Ansible) as well as basic knowledge of security and compliance.
  • Experience with Oracle AQ (Advanced Queuing), reading/writing PL/SQL and using Oracle GoldenGate for replication and data integration is desirable.
  • Fluent German and very good English skills.
