About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Supervise and manage daily operation of the fixed route and flexible transportation systems and transit center, ensuring compliance with city, local, state and federal laws governing transit services.
Ensure minimum variation in scheduled bus service and passenger safety by managing on-site street operations and computerized radio equipment and initiating communication with the city’s police, safety and fire departments and local construction companies that might affect service.
Resolve day-to-day operating problems that arise, including but not limited to vehicle breakdowns, accidents and missed or late routes; makes appropriate decisions regarding restoring or maintaining service.
Communicate service updates, schedule changes, and emergency notifications to internal and external stakeholders using clear, timely, and professional written and verbal communication.
Investigate customer complaints and resolves passenger disputes related to provision of service.
Monitor Bus Operators, riding the system to evaluate operator efficiency and maintain records of assigned operators.
Work with the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to develop training exercises and responds to real-time emergencies.

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in business administration or a related field preferred.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a transit operator or equivalent fixed‑route or paratransit operating experience.
Three (3) to five (5) years of customer service experience and two (2) years of supervisory experience in scheduled transportation and/or dispatch operations preferred.
Valid Indiana Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements required, or the ability to obtain the required license within six (6) months of hire.
Knowledge of streets, landmarks and geography of Marion County and IPTC bus routes.
Working knowledge of scheduling, dispatch, and workforce management software, or the demonstrated ability to learn specialized transit systems (e.g., scheduling, radio, and payroll platforms).
