About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Supervise and manage daily operation of the fixed route and flexible transportation systems and transit center, ensuring compliance with city, local, state and federal laws governing transit services.
- Ensure minimum variation in scheduled bus service and passenger safety by managing on-site street operations and computerized radio equipment and initiating communication with the city’s police, safety and fire departments and local construction companies that might affect service.
- Resolve day-to-day operating problems that arise, including but not limited to vehicle breakdowns, accidents and missed or late routes; makes appropriate decisions regarding restoring or maintaining service.
- Communicate service updates, schedule changes, and emergency notifications to internal and external stakeholders using clear, timely, and professional written and verbal communication.
- Investigate customer complaints and resolves passenger disputes related to provision of service.
- Monitor Bus Operators, riding the system to evaluate operator efficiency and maintain records of assigned operators.
- Work with the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to develop training exercises and responds to real-time emergencies.
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in business administration or a related field preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a transit operator or equivalent fixed‑route or paratransit operating experience.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of customer service experience and two (2) years of supervisory experience in scheduled transportation and/or dispatch operations preferred.
- Valid Indiana Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements required, or the ability to obtain the required license within six (6) months of hire.
- Knowledge of streets, landmarks and geography of Marion County and IPTC bus routes.
- Working knowledge of scheduling, dispatch, and workforce management software, or the demonstrated ability to learn specialized transit systems (e.g., scheduling, radio, and payroll platforms).
