About the role
- Process semi-monthly payroll for ~500+ US employees (hourly and salaried), including base pay, variable pay, deductions, benefits contributions, and taxes
- Validate hours, time-off, commissions, bonuses, and overtime for accuracy
- Review payroll reports prior to final submission
- Coordinate with Finance to reconcile payroll funding and general ledger postings
- Maintain employee payroll records for hires, terminations, promotions, and compensation changes
- Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local laws on wages, deductions, tax withholdings, and reporting
- Support annual and quarterly tax filings, audits, and compliance checks
- Assist with year-end activities including W-2 preparation and distribution
- Act as first point of contact for payroll-related questions and resolve pay issues, deductions, garnishments, and taxes
- Look for process improvements and automation opportunities
- Collaborate with Accounting on reconciliations, accruals, and payroll reporting
Requirements
- At least 4+ years of payroll experience for companies with more than 500 people
- Experience with multi-site, hospitality businesses such as retail or restaurants
- Experience with global payroll (Canada and Europe) - bonus, not required
- Knowledge of payroll compliance and tax rules
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable in Excel, including pivot tables
- Clear communication skills and discretion handling sensitive information
- Bonus: experience with Workday or other payroll systems
