About the role
- Responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient records in compliance with official coding guidelines and AHIMAs Standards of Ethical Coding
- Abstracts key clinical information and ensures coding accuracy and completeness
- Reviews medical records to assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes
- Ensures proper abstracting of required data, including discharge disposition
- Maintains at least 95.5% coding accuracy for diagnoses and procedures
- Prepares compliant retrospective physician queries as needed
- Stays updated with AHA, CMS, and other regulatory coding guidelines
- Resolves held accounts and communicates documentation issues to leadership
Requirements
- With active CPC, CCS, CIC
- 2-3 years of experience with inpatient medical coding
- Handled simple to complex cases, high dollar account
- Strong knowledge with CPT, ICD10, HCPCS
- EMR/EHR (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, 3M encoder)
