About the role
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models for Direct and Indirect Labor costs across all manufacturing Value Streams. Track headcount, rates, efficiency, and utilization against Budget and Forecast. Identify and communicate variances with root-cause analysis, partnering with Value Stream leaders and Operations finance to drive accountability and corrective action.
- Manage financial tracking and reporting for Facilities spend, Fixed Overhead, and Other COGS components allocated to or incurred within manufacturing Value Streams. Maintain budget-to-actual comparisons, support monthly close activities, and coordinate with Accounting and Facilities teams to ensure accurate cost capture and allocation. Identify opportunities to improve cost visibility and allocation methodology.
- Build and maintain Manufacturing Variance models to track, analyze, and explain variances between standard and actual costs across labor, overhead, and materials. Develop a consistent variance reporting framework — including price, efficiency, volume, and mix variances — and work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Accounting to drive understanding and resolution of significant variance drivers.
- Design and maintain Value Stream-level views of productivity (e.g., output per labor dollar, earned hours vs. actual hours, labor efficiency ratios) and profitability (e.g., contribution margin, overhead absorption, cost per unit). Develop standardized dashboards and reporting packages for Operations and Finance that translate manufacturing performance into clear financial outcomes.
- Support the annual budgeting and quarterly/monthly forecasting processes for manufacturing labor, facilities, fixed overhead, and other COGS. Partner with Value Stream Managers, HR, Facilities, and Operations to build bottoms-up cost plans aligned with production schedules and capacity assumptions. Maintain forecast accuracy and support continuous improvement in planning processes.
- Analyze manufacturing cost structures at the Value Stream level, including direct and indirect labor, facilities, fixed overhead, and other COGS components. Incorporate manufacturing variance analysis into ongoing cost reviews to identify efficiency trends, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for operational improvement. Support make vs. buy and capital investment analyses as needed.
- Serve as the primary FP&A liaison to Value Stream leaders and Operations management. Translate complex financial data into actionable operational insights. Participate in Value Stream performance reviews and operational cadences, ensuring financial context is integrated into decision-making.
- Collaborate with analyst-level team members within FP&A Operations to drive best practices in financial modeling, data integrity, and reporting. Champion process improvement initiatives, leveraging ERP and BI tools to reduce manual effort and improve reporting timeliness and accuracy.
- Support the development and maintenance of the long-range plan with a specific focus on labor cost trajectories and Value Stream profitability scenarios. Provide scenario analysis around workforce changes, volume fluctuations, and productivity improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field. MBA or relevant certification (CFA, CPA) strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis, FP&A, or manufacturing finance.
- Demonstrated experience tracking and analyzing manufacturing costs including Direct and Indirect Labor, Facilities, Fixed Overhead, and Manufacturing Variances.
- Prior exposure to Value Stream Management, Lean manufacturing principles, or Value Stream costing methodologies strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and Excel; experience with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Infor, Oracle, SAP) and familiarity with manufacturing planning tools; proficiency in Tableau for data visualization and reporting.
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) to streamline FP&A processes, improve analytical workflows, and accelerate reporting and modeling tasks.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing cost structures including direct/indirect labor, facilities, fixed overhead, Other COGS, and standard costing concepts.
- Experience with manufacturing variance analysis, including price, efficiency, volume, and mix variances.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large datasets into clear, actionable insights for Finance and Operations stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to engage credibly with both finance and operations audiences.
- Experience building or improving financial reporting and planning tools, with a focus on automation and scalability.
- Strategic-thinker who can connect operational detail to enterprise financial outcomes.
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to build trusted partnerships across Operations, HR, Accounting, and Supply Chain.
- Self-motivated and comfortable operating with ambiguity; able to define structure where it does not yet exist.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented; demonstrates intellectual curiosity and a bias toward continuous improvement.
