About the role

  • Develop and maintain custom WordPress solutions (plugins, themes, and integrations), working primarily on existing codebases and feature enhancements rather than greenfield architecture.
  • Implement and extend PHP-based functionality following established WordPress patterns, including hooks, actions, filters, and basic OOP principles.
  • Integrate WordPress with external systems using REST or GraphQL APIs, supporting content delivery, data synchronization, and backend workflows.
  • Support headless or partially headless setups by collaborating with frontend engineers working in React, assisting with data exposure and backend changes as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and fix bugs in production environments, addressing performance, reliability, and functional issues in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to improvements in code quality, maintainability, and performance through refactoring and incremental optimizations.
  • Work within CI/CD workflows and version control processes, following team standards for code reviews and deployments.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, QA, and product stakeholders in a distributed, agile environment.
  • Gradually expand responsibilities into Python-based tooling, automation, or backend services as the platform evolves.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience developing web applications with a strong emphasis on PHP and WordPress.
  • Hands-on experience customizing WordPress through plugins, themes, and integrations, with exposure to production CMS environments.
  • Solid understanding of WordPress Core concepts, including hooks, actions, filters, and basic security practices.
  • Experience consuming or implementing REST APIs and/or GraphQL APIs in real projects.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and basic familiarity with React, or strong willingness to learn and support frontend-related tasks.
  • Basic experience or exposure to Python, particularly for scripts, tooling, or automation, with interest in growing in this area.
  • Experience using Git and collaborating in team-based development workflows.
  • Familiarity with monitoring or debugging production systems, with exposure to tools such as Datadog, logs, or similar observability platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively on existing systems and evolving requirements.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional, international teams.
  • Fluent English (B2 minimum) — able to participate in technical discussions and day-to-day collaboration.
