About the role
- Lead the delivery of REACH Somalia’s analytical work on acute humanitarian needs at national and sub-national levels.
- Support the development of a national Needs Analysis Working Group (NAWG) with OCHA, working alongside the Analysis Specialist to contribute to analytical framework design, aimed at regular inter-sectoral analysis and decision-oriented outputs for the ICCG and HPC.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the Real-Time Monitoring (RTM) system to support Area-Based Coordination, including synthesis of multiple data sources and support to joint analysis with ABC partners.
- Review, synthesise, and assess secondary data from REACH, UN agencies, INGOs, and public sources, identifying data gaps.
- Build contextual understanding and stakeholder networks at national and sub-national levels to ensure outputs are relevant, credible, and aligned with decision-making needs.
- Lead structured analysis using IMPACT’s global Acute Needs Analysis guidance and defined framework, and translate findings into concise, high-impact outputs.
- Draft and disseminate analytical products in collaboration with GIS, data, and assessment colleagues, and potentially present findings to coordination fora and donors, as required.
- Ensure effective use of existing REACH data collected in Somalia and contribute to learning and methodological improvements for future analytical work.
Requirements
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills: experience interpreting complex data and the ability to evaluate the quality of different data sources.
- Understanding of humanitarian coordination system: understanding of the HPC and inter-agency needs analysis and assessments, and experience engaging with a variety of stakeholders (clusters, donors, UN agencies) across the humanitarian response.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills: a proven ability to identify trends, contextualize findings, and synthesise complex information into actionable insights for diverse humanitarian audiences.
- Strong writing skills: experience producing clear, concise outputs for humanitarian audiences which combine text and visuals for maximum impact.
- Delivering at pace: the proven ability to manage workflows and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
- Resilience, sound judgment, and emotional intelligence: comfortable with working autonomously and with limited direction.
- Patience when things don’t go your way, and the resilience to continue in difficult situations.
- Prior experience in Somalia would be a strong asset.
