About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Talk to referral sources
  • Collect and enter patient intake information into the computer system
  • Complete the intake process and initial authorization
  • Verify insurance and determine benefits or self-pay status
  • Provide excellent telephone and in-person customer service
  • Answer and return telephone calls promptly and courteously
  • Triage phone calls as appropriate
  • Respond to requests accurately and timely
  • Coordinate with facility departments to ensure patients receive appropriate treatment
  • Organize daily activities to ensure department functions meet accepted standards
  • Establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships
  • Comply with information privacy and confidentiality policies and regulations
  • Obtain insurance eligibility and benefits information using phone and online resources for HME Support Services
  • Maintain authorizations and notify insurance companies of patient arrival as needed
  • Complete eligibility and authorization requirements within required timeframes
  • Translate physician narrative diagnoses into ICD-9 or ICD-10 codes for HME Support Services
  • Maintain management-established productivity levels when completing orders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • One year of customer service experience
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and communication skills
  • Experience working effectively in time-sensitive situations
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to make prompt, accountable decisions
  • Ability to work under stress
  • Computer and word-processing skills
  • Preferred: One year of experience with Medicare/Medicaid and other commercial insurances, preauthorization, and utilization management
  • Preferred: Experience with Centricity/IDX
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Intermountain Healthcare's computer systems
  • Preferred: Bilingual Spanish speaking
  • Preferred: Admitting, billing, collection, and/or insurance verification experience
  • Preferred: Knowledge of CPT/HCPCS/ICD-9/ICD-10 codes
  • Preferred: Medical terminology
  • Ability to see and read information, labels, documents, and monitors
  • Ability to verbally communicate and hear and understand spoken information quickly and accurately
  • Manual dexterity for frequent computer use and typing
