About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Accurately assign ICD-10 CM diagnosis codes and CPT codes for emergency departments
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, documentation requirements, and reimbursement policies
- Reviews and analyzes emergency department records and assigns appropriate codes
- Monitors and responds to coding denials and audits
- Verify data abstracted from the electronic health record (EHR)
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-10-CM/PCS
- Ability to complete and pass internal coding exam
- Proficiency in using coding software and electronic health records
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Associate degree or higher preferred in health information management or related field
- Coding experience in acute care facility with ICD-10-CM & PCS coding
