About the role
- A Patient Financial Advocate is responsible for providing financial counseling to uninsured/ underinsured patients.
- Determine medical assistance eligibility for patients in various settings.
- Assist patients with submitting and/or processing documentation for medical assistance programs.
- Provide general insurance education and quotes to patients.
- Assist with payments and arrangements.
- Identify financial assistance programs for eligible patients.
- Complete and submit applications to relevant departments.
- Follow-up through determination and resolve billing issues.
- Educate patients on financial obligations and rights.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare revenue cycle, patient access or other customer service role.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Affordable Care Act, Insurance billing, medical terminology, and reimbursement practices.
- Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting insurance Explanation of Benefits.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, electronic health record systems, internet and email.
- Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in financial counseling, insurance verification, or collections preferred.
- Experience with Epic preferred.
- Spanish speaking preferred.
