About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Partner with designated Global Commercial senior leaders to develop client-based workforce capital solutions
  • Design and execute innovative HR programs and solutions
  • Share HRBP best practices and learnings across the HRBP function
  • Lead initiatives across client organizations and participate in cross-functional project teams
  • Collaborate with Centers of Excellence and business leaders on organizational and people strategies
  • Serve on VP leadership teams, attend weekly staff meetings, and provide real-time HR guidance
  • Ensure effective leadership teams and succession pipelines through leadership development, hiring, and coaching
  • Lead talent reviews, succession planning, performance management, compensation planning, and merit/equity cycles
  • Build consultative relationships with senior executives and advise on employee engagement and retention
  • Advise on performance management, employee coaching and development, investigations, discipline, terminations, and reductions in force
  • Lead project work driven by business priorities and HR initiatives
  • Facilitate online or in-person courses
  • Coordinate initiatives across site and regional HR teams, including Singapore and Cambridge, UK sites
  • Participate in cross-functional work groups addressing business and operational challenges
  • Support HR policy and procedure development and administration
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze people and performance metrics such as turnover
  • Deputize locally in San Diego for the Global Commercial HRBP

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 15 years of HR partnering and relevant HR COE experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 8 years with a Master’s degree, or a PhD with 5 years of experience, or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience supporting Commercial functions
  • Life sciences business experience preferred
  • Proven consultation, communication, and influencing skills
  • Ability to communicate human capital practices in a complex, fast-moving, global environment
  • Ability to balance advocacy for company initiatives with employee advocacy
  • Ability to understand business imperatives and translate them into HR initiatives
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to learn the business and understand business drivers
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively across multiple HR levels and disciplines
  • Experience with employment and workplace safety laws and compliance requirements
  • Experience with Inclusion and Belonging initiatives preferred
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Self-awareness and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to build long-term, trusting relationships with clients and HR colleagues
  • Global mindset and understanding of diverse and inclusive teams
