About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct payroll reporting audits
  • Ensure payroll tax compliance
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll and payroll tax regulations
  • Research, understand and interpret existing or revised tax codes, laws, or forms
  • Suggest responses to changes in tax law, regulations, and guidelines
  • Continuously review payroll tax processes to identify opportunities for improvement and automation
  • Assist in review, development and implementation of changes or new payroll policies and procedures
  • Coordinate the implementation of changes with the internal HR technology team and external vendors
  • Collaborate with various internal stakeholders and departments on enterprise projects
  • Work with vendors to research and resolve complex tax issues or discrepancies
  • Offer guidance and direction on tax topics to the immediate team members or broader HR department
  • Assist with tax agency audits
  • Reconcile quarterly and annual tax filings, including W-2 data
  • Responsible for reconciling various General Ledger accounts assigned to the Payroll team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll processing and tax compliance
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations (Canadian payroll tax regulation knowledge is a plus)
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Proficiency in using Workday as a payroll system (experience with other systems, such as ADP, Experian/CIC+ or similar platforms is a plus)
  • Proficiency in Excel (i.e., Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and other formulas)
  • Strong attention to detail; customer service, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-volume environment
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy
  • Certifications such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) are a plus
