About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a small team in power systems modeling and analytics for utility clients
  • Mentor and train less experienced engineers in power engineering theories and principles
  • Manage project tasks such as forecasting, tracking hours, budgeting, milestones, scheduling meetings, delegating tasks
  • Interact with clients to demonstrate expertise and attract new business
  • Create and maintain transmission short circuit and power flow models in programs like CAPE, ASPEN, PSSE, and PSCAD
  • Perform analyses such as Arc Flash, voltage imbalance, and thermal ampacity ratings
  • Write thorough technical reports summarizing findings
  • Develop automation scripts to improve task efficiency and accuracy using languages such as Python, SQL, and VBA

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Power Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering theories and principles, i.e. transmission and distribution system modeling, short circuit and power flow analysis, arc flash hazard calculations, voltage imbalance studies, and/or thermal ampacity ratings
  • 5+ years of experience working at an electric utility, such as an investor-owned utility, municipal utility, or electric cooperative
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, Power Engineering or related field (preferred)
  • 12+ years of experience in electrical engineering theories and principles (preferred)
  • People management and mentorship experience (preferred)
  • Experience directing and reviewing the work of others for quality assurance and delivering constructive feedback (preferred)
  • Knowledge of the practical application of industry standards such as: IEEE, ANSI, NERC and FERC regulations (preferred)
  • Experience in scripting in Python to automate analyses in power systems software (preferred)
  • Ability to plan and manage assignments and clearly communicate barriers to complete tasks on budget/schedule (preferred)
  • Initiative to embrace continuous learning toward becoming an expert on the programs and technology you represent (preferred)
  • Proficiency in computer software tools to model engineering problems, program automation systems, and preparing spreadsheet-based analyses and automation (preferred)
