About the role
- Design Review & Analysis
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of HV electrical design packages for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.
- Identify and evaluate potential fatal flaws in system configuration, equipment selection, and design compliance.
- Develop and deliver detailed engineering reports with findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
- Analyze single-line diagrams, protection schemes, and control system designs for accuracy and completeness.
- Evaluate equipment specifications including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protection devices.
- Conduct due diligence, desktop reviews and develop construction monitoring reports, and/or project completion reports on energy and infrastructure assets.
- Electrical Studies & System Analysis
- Review arc flash studies and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Analyze short-circuit studies, load flow, and fault current calculations to support system planning and coordination.
- Review substation grounding systems to ensure compliance with standards and local requirements.
- Evaluate harmonic studies and recommend mitigation strategies to enhance power quality.
- Review and optimize relay coordination and protection settings.
- Review metering coordination and revenue metering requirements to ensure proper integration.
- Transmission & Distribution Systems
- Review transmission line designs for grid interconnections.
- Evaluate substation layouts and equipment arrangements to ensure safety, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
- Assess SCADA and communication system integration requirements for data monitoring and control.
- Review protection schemes and backup protection strategies for reliability and redundancy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with a focus on power systems.
- 3+ years of experience working in electrical design related areas including electrical design of renewable energy projects, substation design and power system engineering.
- Demonstrated understanding of current electrical design issues for power generation projects including but not limited to: industry best practices relating to engineering and construction; power system design; grounding methods and construction practices; control systems and grid interaction; substation and interconnection design; and the technical aspects of interconnection agreements.
- Strong understanding of U.S. electrical codes: NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA.
- Hands-on experience with arc flash, short circuit, load flow, grounding, and harmonic analyses.
- Familiarity with transmission voltage systems (69 kV and above) and utility interconnection processes.
- Ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to varied audiences.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
