About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle Management Liability Claims, including EPL, D&O, Fiduciary, and Crime claims, for private and non-profit businesses
  • Analyze, investigate, negotiate, and resolve claims of all severity levels within authority limits
  • Select, direct, and manage defense counsel, including approval of budgets
  • Develop litigation and file disposition strategies
  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
  • Verify and analyze applicable coverage
  • Follow operational, compliance, regulatory, performance, and customer service policies and procedures
  • Prepare Large Loss Reports and other management reports covering loss development, financial exposure, coverage issues, claim strategies, and recovery strategies
  • Establish 24-hour contact and maintain stakeholder contact throughout the claim file lifecycle
  • Identify and address recovery, contribution, and SIU opportunities
  • Set accurate and timely loss and expense reserves
  • Draft correspondence, including coverage letters
  • Support business partners on claim, underwriting, and marketing-related issues
  • Maintain resident and nonresident adjuster licenses as required
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Juris Doctorate required
  • Must be properly licensed, registered, or authorized and in good standing to practice law in the working jurisdiction
  • 3–7 years of management liability claims experience
  • Experience handling Employment Practices Liability, Directors & Officers Liability, Fiduciary Liability, and Crime claims on a national basis
  • Excellent coverage analysis skills
  • Experience drafting coverage position correspondence
  • Experience handling litigated files and directing defense counsel is a plus
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Willingness to travel, averaging one day per month
  • Claims licensure as required by the respective state(s)
  • CPCU and other insurance-related studies are beneficial
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize, multitask, and prioritize work
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions using sound judgment, and make supported decisions
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future
