About the role

Drive high-impact initiatives: lead cross-cutting engineering efforts, especially early-stage or ambiguous projects
Shape our technical future: contribute to and evolve the Engineering Vision to raise quality and sustainability
Partner deeply across teams: work with Engineering Managers and Product Managers to support teams building secure, scalable, high-performing software
Guide architectural decisions: consult on system designs and help teams anticipate future technical challenges
Elevate engineering practices: scale local wins into org-wide standards to improve velocity, reliability, and developer experience
Build trust and alignment: communicate technical concepts and help stakeholders align on priorities and outcomes
Lead in moments that matter: provide calm, decisive leadership during high-stakes incidents and keep initiatives on track
Grow the culture: mentor engineers, contribute to talent development, and foster curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning
Work across domains, systems and initiatives rather than being tied to a single team
Take ideas from napkin sketch to production-grade systems and set patterns for AI integration and scalability

Depth in cloud and distributed systems; experience designing and building scalable, secure, reliable cloud-based architectures
Architectural thinking: evaluate and design complex systems
Experience across multiple languages, frameworks and technologies (Python, Kotlin, Rust, Typescript, React, AWS)
Self-directed and proactive; able to spot high-value opportunities and take ownership
Technical leadership and influence; led initiatives spanning teams and functions
Excellent communication and stakeholder alignment skills; translate technical ideas for varied audiences
Documentation advocate: strong technical writing for present and future engineers
Versatile and curious; willing to pick up new technologies when needed
Experience or interest in AI integration and generative AI for software development
Comfortable mentoring engineers and contributing to talent development
Comfortable working across multiple teams and projects in a fast-moving environment
Must be London-based and comfortable with hybrid work (2-3 days per week in office)
