About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee the organisation's day-to-day financial management and reporting functions
- Prepare and review monthly management reports, financial statements, and executive reporting packs
- Provide strategic financial advice and recommendations to support business growth and executive decision-making
- Establish and implement Xero, including designing accounting processes and financial controls
- Own payroll oversight, compliance, and financial governance across the organisation
- Build and improve finance systems, workflows, and internal processes for scalability
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Monitor financial performance and provide strategic recommendations to leadership
- Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and relevant financial regulations
- Review reconciliations, general ledger accuracy, and month-end close processes
- Develop and maintain financial controls, policies, and governance frameworks
- Support external accountants, auditors, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Analyse business performance, profitability, and financial trends
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting, and operational efficiencies
- Support business planning, financial modelling, and strategic decision-making
- Provide guidance and oversight to bookkeeping or finance support staff where required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years' experience working specifically as a Financial Controller for an Australian business
- Proven end-to-end responsibility for the finance function within an Australian business
- Demonstrated experience implementing Xero and establishing accounting systems and financial processes from the ground up
- Extensive experience managing payroll oversight and Australian payroll compliance
- Experience advising business owners or executive leadership teams
- Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards and financial reporting requirements
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and cash flow management
- Experience using Xero, MYOB, or similar cloud-based accounting platforms
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong financial modelling capability
- Experience implementing finance systems or process improvements
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to operate independently while collaborating with senior stakeholders
- CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification highly preferred
- Experience in healthcare, allied health, wellness, or not-for-profit organisations is nice to have
- Experience supporting growing SMEs or multi-site organisations is nice to have
- Familiarity with Power BI or financial reporting dashboards is nice to have
- Experience mentoring finance team members is nice to have
- Availability for meetings and collaboration during core AEST or PHT business hours
- Disclosure of existing ongoing roles or client work
- LinkedIn profile must reflect this engagement as 'Independent Contractor' if not employed via EOR
