About the role

  • Lead development of HOT’s product market function from market identification to defining service-market fit and embedding product marketing practices
  • Act as a bridge between products, customers, staff and partnerships to ensure service alignment with real-world needs and readiness for scale
  • Define and validate product-market fit for mapping services; capture user/customer needs, test assumptions, and iterate based on feedback
  • Identify and assess priority markets and lead go-to-market planning including segmentation, value propositions, pricing and launch plans
  • Design and develop internal capabilities, processes, tools, and templates to grow a product-market mindset among staff
  • Train and mentor relevant staff and serve as a resource for teams piloting or scaling new services
  • Collaborate on messaging and positioning strategies; create outreach and pitch materials in collaboration with Communications
  • Support creation of a small marketing function and share insights across HOT
  • Define success metrics for product-market fit and market performance and track performance and feedback with MERL team

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience in product marketing, go-to-market strategy, or market development
  • Proven success designing and launching services or products in emerging or underserved markets
  • Experience working with community-based or user-centered approaches to service design or delivery
  • Strong understanding of product-market fit and practical experience applying it in dynamic or resource-constrained environments
  • Familiarity with open source or geospatial technology products and their application in humanitarian, development, or public service contexts
  • Confident communicator with a collaborative, coaching mindset—able to influence without authority and build capacity across diverse teams
  • A good listener who values and respects those around them and is able to work across several cultures
  • Entrepreneurial approach to marketing; innovative, problem solving, and strategic
  • Nice-to-have: Experience working internationally and within the humanitarian sector
  • Nice-to-have: Experience building internal functions or systems within a growing or evolving organization
  • Nice-to-have: Fluency in one or more additional languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese)
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team’s mission and values
