About the role
- Act as a player coach leading a team of 3-5 engineers
- Design and implement scalable backend services, libraries, tools and automation to the operation and usage of data stores
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate caching and coordination technologies into their stack in a reliable manner
- Support the uptime and reliability of database systems
- Work in a dynamic, agile environment with a team of engineers to deliver holistic solutions that address user needs
- Conduct code reviews, contribute to internal tooling, and maintain high coding standards to ensure the reliability and performance of our applications
- Coach the team to work iteratively, experiment with new ideas, and embrace a "startup mentality" of learning fast and adapting quickly
- Continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and frameworks to keep solutions at the forefront of technological innovation
- Own the roadmap and strategy for platforms, balancing competing demands across technologies and crafting the platform into a product that provides leverage for hundreds of engineers at HubSpot
Requirements
- Extensive experience in backend platform or infrastructure development
- Proficiency in Java or a willingness to learn and adapt to new programming languages
- Experience offering infrastructure platforms to other engineering teams and understanding how to build infrastructure as a product
- History of developing solutions with an outsized impact on the organization’s business goals
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with teams across the organization
- Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset, with interest in AI and machine learning
- Strong ownership of projects end to end; track record of successfully rolling out infrastructure and collaborating with multiple Engineering teams
- Proven ability to solve complicated technical problems and analyze trade-offs with empathy for the developers
- Experience leading and coaching engineers (player-coach for a team of 3-5 engineers)
- Bonus: experience developing automation or power user of memcached, Zookeeper, HBase, MySql, Kafka or similar data stores
- Bonus: experience supporting infrastructure at scale on Kubernetes
