Support the AMES IP Engineering team in the technical stewardship of data network equipment, data transmission, and IP-related services.
Work independently or as part of a collaborative group to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve critical problems and incidents related to IP data transit.
Act as an escalation point for technical support requests, providing advanced troubleshooting for critical incidents.
Assist in the engineering and deployment of Speedcast’s Global Network.
Collaborate with Network Engineers worldwide on the design and deployment of new services and enhancements to existing ones.
Participate as a member of the established on-call support rotation.
Foster professional collaboration across internal and external teams, vendors, and third-party providers.
Contribute to the design and development of innovative products and services that strengthen Speedcast’s technological leadership.
Support the continuous improvement of network design, security, and availability.
Develop detailed documentation and implementation plans that follow best practices and approved standards.
Optimize network management systems to enable accurate metric reporting and proactive infrastructure management.
Improve the availability, performance, and reliability of network services.
Assist in the development of visualization and monitoring tools that effectively represent service health and performance.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
Minimum 6 years of experience in Network Engineering within large enterprise or service provider environments
CCIE certification (or equivalent expert-level certification) required or in active pursuit
Expert-level knowledge of WAN technologies and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, EVPN, ISIS, STP, VLANs, QoS, etc.)
Strong experience with Cisco technologies (IOS-XE/NX-OS) and multi-vendor environments (Juniper, Arista)
Solid understanding of firewalls, VPNs, and network security principles, including experience with Next-Gen firewalls such as Palo Alto, Fortinet and Cisco ASA
Strong knowledge of IP transit and IX architectures, including communities and maintaining IRR records
Experience with Segment Routing is an advantage (not mandatory)
Proficiency in automation and scripting using tools such as Python, Ansible, Git, Terraform, or REST APIs
Familiarity with Cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP etc)
Intermediate experience with SD-WAN, SDN and Network Function Virtualization (NFV)
Ability to use protocol analyzers, network sniffers and management tools, and other ‘tools of the trade’
Excellent technical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across geographically distributed teams, time zones, and on-call rotations.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to generate detailed and accurate reports
Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced, high stress situations in a professional manner
Fluent English communication skills (verbal and written).
