About the role
- Evaluating manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
- Developing manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
- Improving manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- Assuring product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
- Providing manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
- Preparing product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Providing manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Managing capital projects from start to completion including writing AFEs (Authority for Expenditure).
- Lead / Assist in tool design and manufacturing process development.
- Develop and implement cost saving projects.
- Participate in Lean events that drive productivity and cost improvement.
- Lead quality improvement activities including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Work closely with product engineering in product changes/new product introductions.
- Investigate and implement safety and ergonomic changes in the manufacturing setting.
- Provide technical support/training to direct labor employees.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- AutoCAD, Inventor and Microsoft Access experience is a plus
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical manufacturing processes, including assembly and testing
- Knowledge of Lean Practices in a manufacturing environment, along with practical experience, is required
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry/trigonometry
- Knowledge of Database/Design/Development/Internet and Manufacturing software, including ProE/AutoCad/Microsoft Office
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists along with the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to travel on business related trips as needed
- Experience in tool design, tool build and modeling
- 3-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment
