About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and maintain multi-platform database environments including DB2 on AIX, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, or similar)
- Design and implement database automation solutions using Flyway for schema migrations and deployment pipelines
- Architect and optimize databases on AWS cloud infrastructure, leveraging services like Amazon RDS, Aurora, and DynamoDB
- Integrate database deployments into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring automated, reliable, and repeatable database change management
- Perform advanced query optimization and performance tuning to ensure optimal database response times
- Implement database security best practices including authentication, encryption, and access control
- Monitor database health, capacity planning, and proactive issue resolution
- Develop and maintain database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
- Collaborate with development teams to support application database requirements
- Document database architectures, procedures, and operational runbooks
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator
- Strong expertise with IBM DB2 database administration on AIX/Power platforms
- Proficiency in PostgreSQL administration, tuning, and optimization
- Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra, or similar)
- Proven experience with AWS database services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift)
- Hands-on experience with Redgate Flyway for database migration automation and version control
- Strong understanding of CI/CD concepts and experience integrating database deployments into automated pipelines
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
- Demonstrated expertise in SQL query optimization and performance tuning
- Experience with database monitoring tools and performance analysis
- AWS certification (AWS Certified Database Specialty or Solutions Architect) and/or IBM DB2 certification
- Experience with database migration projects (on-premises to cloud)
- Knowledge of database code analysis and testing frameworks
- Experience with Secrets Manager or similar credential management systems
- Understanding of Multi-AZ deployments and disaster recovery strategies
- Understanding of indexing strategies, execution plans, and query profiling
- Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and database scripting languages
- Experience with database security implementations including IAM database authentication
- Knowledge of database replication, clustering, and high availability configurations
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for database deployments
- Experience with version control systems (Git, GitHub, GitLab)
- Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
