About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan, coordinate, and complete complex documentation, coding, and billing reviews
- Serve as liaison between the Centralized Business Office and clinical departments
- Provide direction and guidance to coders and clinical providers
- Onboard physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants on compliant clinical documentation and coding
- Review coding accuracy and provide results to coding supervisors
- Deliver ongoing documentation, coding, and billing education
- Communicate audit results and corrective-action exceptions to the Centralized Business Office
- Provide quality assurance and guidance to departments
- Design, deliver, and assess physician/staff training materials
- Monitor provider progress for adherence to regulations, policies, and procedures
- Design and complete the annual documentation and coding review plan
- Prepare review summaries and required action items
- Ensure charges are documented and billed appropriately and timely
- Review physician coding trends and identify opportunities to improve coding, documentation, and charge capture
- Audit new-provider documentation and coding to prevent charge and payment delays
- Maintain knowledge of coding industry standards, policies, and procedures
- Assist with drafting and editing billing-compliance and documentation policies, protocols, and procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or equivalent education
- Seven years of progressive multi-specialty professional coding experience
- Must hold one of: CPC, CPC-H, CPC-I, CCS, or CCS-P certification
- Proficiency in English speaking, reading, and writing
- Knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding
- Knowledge of healthcare billing and Physicians at Teaching Hospitals (PATH) guidelines
- Proficiency in spreadsheet, word-processing, presentation, and compliance tracking software
- Ability to navigate healthcare regulatory websites
- Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally
- Ability to analyze information, identify issues, and articulate trends
- Ability to use judgment, maintain objectivity, and envision outcomes when making decisions
- Ability to multitask, prioritize projects, and maintain attention to detail
- Self-motivated ability to think critically and work independently
