About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Function as an expert Senior Medical Assistant under the direct supervision of a Physician and/or Registered Nurse
- Assist with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, dressing changes, and routine clinical testing
- Perform administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, government standards, and company policies
- Schedule patient appointments, ensure medical necessity compliance, and verify eligibility for care
- Serve as a preceptor and clinical resource for Medical Assistants; train, orient, guide, and mentor colleagues
- Complete pre-visit planning, obtain and document vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, and medical/social history
- Document care, diagnostic measurements, treatments, and procedures in the patient’s EMR
- Follow up with patients regarding recommendations, medications, lab/x-ray results, and specialist or community resources
- Coordinate care with hospitals, emergency departments, consulting physicians, and community resources
- Ensure patient utilization and activation of MyChart
- Report patient observations, conditions, problems, and abnormal clinical findings to physicians and nurses
- Perform EKGs, rapid strep tests, urinalysis, and urine pregnancy tests
- Sterilize instruments and equipment; prepare, clean, and maintain exam and treatment rooms
- Stock exam rooms, take inventory, and order supplies
- Manage time, prioritize tasks, and minimize incidental overtime
- Participate in performance improvement and professional development activities
- Maintain and update the My Development plan
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or equivalent education
- Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline
- Required certification as a Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA; or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT
- Current BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor certification from the American Heart Association
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English
- Knowledge of medical practice and patient care
- Ability to assist with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatment procedures
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments
- Skill in maintaining clinical quality assurance and accurate medical records
- Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes
- Ability to maintain current certifications and complete required continuous training and education
- Advanced assessment competencies appropriate for level of practice
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public
- Ability to work with peers in a team situation
- Preferred CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification
